Chess Journalists of America is pleased to announce that Dr. Jon Edwards was unamimously appointed as Vice President by the Executive Board earlier today to fill the vacancy brought about by the resignation of Dr. Robert Irons. Dr. Irons was elected by the membership at the 2023 annual meeting and served as Vice President until November 23. His volunteer service is greatly appreciated.
Dr. Jon Edwards is the 32nd World Correspondence Chess Champion (ICCF Rating: 2553). He achieved the world title and became a Correspondence Chess Grandmaster in 2022. In addition to correspondence chess, Edwards is also accomplished over the board having tied for first in the 2016 U.S. Amateur and the 2017 U.S. Invitational. Edwards is also the author of seven chess books and has been a columnist for the American Chess Magazine since 2017. He graduated from Princeton University in 1975 with an AB in History and Economics. Afterwards, Edwards obtained a masters degree in 1977 and a PhD in African Economic History in 1988 from Michigan State University. He is married to his wife, Cheryl, and has two sons, Aaron and Neil. Edwards’s full bio can be found here.
