US Chess nominates JJ Lang for Chess Journalist of the Year. Lang's output in 2024-25 has been prodigious. As Digital Editor for US Chess, he has covered the full range of chess in the last year, from local and state events to the biggest international round-robins. As a strong player in his own right, he knows what good analysis looks like, and he manages to quickly produce annotations that are educational and clear. His "Tactics Tuesday" and "Wednesday Workout" columns have become weekly staples for chess improvers around the world, with more than 500 puzzles and 100 worksheets available free of charge in the 12 months this award covers. And he has commissioned stories and analysis from authors at all stages of their careers, giving first bylines to those just starting out, putting some money in the pockets of titled players, and improving everyone's text with his editorial intervention. For these reasons, and so many more, JJ Lang deserves to be the Chess Journalist of the Year.
